Naidhruva Rush

Naidhruva Rush has been part of Ananda for 24 years, having discovered Yogananda’s teachings in 1979 when she was living in New York City.

“A friend gave me Autobiography of a Yogi to read and I devoured it—here was something I had been looking for all my life without even knowing it!”

A year later, with her 8-year old son, Joseph, Naidhruva moved to Ananda Village and “has never looked back.” Since then, she has served in many ways—as a writer, editor, teacher, and minister, first at Ananda Village and later at Ananda Palo Alto.

During 1960s Naidhruva was a civil rights lawyer and very involved in the civil rights movement. After that, she worked as a law professor in the New York area. Naidhruva says that she was certain she had “left law behind forever” when she became part of Ananda, but it wasn’t to be. For 8 years during the 1990’s, she served as Ananda’s in-house attorney for two major lawsuits that raised important religious freedom issues.

Naidhruva moved back to Ananda Village in late 1999. She is currently the editor of Clarity Magazine, the church periodical published quarterly at Ananda Village. She continues also to serve as a minister and teacher.

Naidhruva’s recent talk on Martin Luther King, Jr. and her Clarity magazine article on King’s life look at King’s life and message in the context of Yogananda’s teachings. To read the article or see a streaming video of the talk:
